passionfruit are a collective of young, energetic, and talented people with a deep rooted love of performance and theatre.  Being blessed with an unending capacity for ideas, passionfruit have formed to create the type of theatre that they get excited about...

passionfruit work in a collective and creative way, drawing on the talents and skills of company members to create new performances for theatre.  Whether the starting point is an original idea, a newly written play, or a classical text, passionfruit play with the work to make it as unique, individual and theatrical as possible, to tailor it to the company's skills and strengths.  See our artistic policy for more information.

Who are these people

Jo Clayton - Artistic Director

Jo studied and trained at Glasgow University and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.  She has worked as a  director and actress on numerous productions in the UK and Europe.  She is a prize winner in the BBC Carlton Hobbs Awards and a freelance director.

Sophy Rankin - Producer

Sophy studied at Manchester University and then trained as an actress at the Central School of Speech and Drama.  After leaving Central she worked as an actress before moving into television production and working as a freelance presenter.  She now works for MBC, one of London's leading independent television production companies.

Deborah O'Malley - Actress

Deborah read English at Cambridge and then trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama.  Since graduating she has performed in numerous productions off west-end and on the London and Edinburgh fringe as well as touring throughout the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.  Her film credits include Celia in 31.12.99 and The Woman in One Woman Talking.

Jennifer Murphy - Writer

Jennifer studied Theatre and Film at Glasgow University and then discovered collaborative theatre in 1996.  Previous work includes the Catholic trilogy: Jezebel (Glasgow, 94), White Dress (C4, Young Writers, 95) and Office Angel (for passionfruit 1999).  Jennifer is currently working on overcoming her obsession with Catholicism and moving on to something else.
